I'm so happy to have time to myself, I've vowed to make this Summer very productive and crafty :)
I started by fixing my clothes 2 shirts and a dress.
Matching threads
My favourite shirt from Algonquins got wrecked at The Wombats 2011, someone stuck gum on my sleeve :( and I couldn't get it out.
The stain looks like ovaries...
I'm not a fan of sleeveless tops, so I tried to cover it up.
anchor patch
I succeeded! the patch is made out of cotton, I forgot how to sew with jersey and over stretched some parts, but they aren't very noticeable.
excuse my bad excema and muscly arms
I'm really happy with the result. I think I might try making more patches, and I really need to practice machine embroidery. The other fixes were just sewing up holes and rips :p
Batman pencil case
I'm trying to shrink my fabric pile, it's currently going very slowing. I made a Batman Pencil Case for Charlotte. She loves Batman? (I'm pretty sure it's love) Just a little thanks for her being patient with me when teaching me how to swim ^_^
Lining and detailing
I had to hand sew the zip, OMG my hand sewing is atrocious, I need to practice that too...
I'm currently knitting a jumper, I never finished my teacher's jumper :(
mohair jumper
However I'm allergic to the wool for this jumper, so I had to use something else.
one night's work
I 'm not sure if I like the colour effect, and I really wanted a see through jumper as slutty as that sounds lol.
I found some sheer fabrics, which I can't wait to play with aswell ^_^
What do you do with broken clothes?
I normally reuse the zips, buttons and then use the rest as scarps and remake it or fix it, I hate throwing clothes and material away. Maybe I'm just cheap XD

Awww, this makes me want to be crafty again! I wish I had the time to do sewing and pattern making more, but I don't :( Now I just give away my old clothes. Although, I'm a lot more of a savvy shopper than I used to be so I don't give away clothes as much.
ReplyDeleteI really love the shirt you did. So sweet! The anchor is cute.
I wish I can do those things, but I not gifted at all, my mother fixes my clothes for me :\
ReplyDeleteOh wow, what a fab idea, have to be honest though... I'm really really lazy and it normally ends up in the bin :S

Love the sheer fabrics!
ReplyDeleteCan't wait to see what
you'll make of them!
I usually try to repair them,
if that's not possible, it
you has too go!

Great little fixes, I cannot believe someone stuck gum on you. I remember when someone got some in my hair I cannot stand the stuff since.
ReplyDeleteI tend to give a go at fixing my clothes, e.g. dresses to skirts otherwise I'll cut them up I want to make a shopper bag from different scraps.
The anchor patch did a great job of covering up the sleeve where the gum (yes, it looked like ovaries) was left behind. I usually throw out broken clothes unless it's a DIY that I can fix.
ReplyDeleteI think you're not cheap, just creative! :)
ReplyDeletexoxo
What a jerk to put gum on your shirt. Who does that kind of thing, really? I'm glad you came up with such a cute way to fix it though. :)
ReplyDeleteOoh I love the colour effect of your knitting - it looks so good!

Except for sewing buttons on, I am simply terrible with broken clothes! T_T I should take a class or something. You have the most creative stuff! :D
ReplyDeleteawee you're so creative! I like what you did on your cute algonquins t-shirt, I love algonquins btw <3 couldn't believe someone would really put a gum on others shirt, he/she will get a karma>.<
ReplyDeleteThat's such a cute touch up to your old worn clothes!! I play with scissor a lot, so most of my broken clothes, I alter it with a scissor :)

That's so cool that you can fix up your own clothes and knit! Wish I had those kind of skills :) It's neat how you managed to salvage a beloved item of clothing - that's so funny about the shape of the stain, I wouldn't have noticed but now that you pointed out, I definitely see it lol!
ReplyDeletebroken cloths is heartbreacking. Usually if I really like the item my hubby re-do it (e.g. sleeveless tops, top from dress etc.) or make patches if it is suitable.
ReplyDeleteloved the anchor idea! and sorry to hear about your allergy

ReplyDeleteHi doll, these are really great ideas for fixing up clothes, wish I were that good with a needle and thread like you. You are so creative!
ReplyDeleteThe patch looks really cute on the shirt! Euwww about the gum, some people are animals.
ReplyDeleteGood luck with your jumper, I really love the colour of it already! See through fabric isn't slutty, just depends how you wear it! I love sheer fabric, it is amazing!
With broken clothes, I try to fix it with my very terrible sewing skills. If not, I find some way to live with the imperfections aha.

I love broken clothes! you can break them more and you can fix it or you can use it to redesign a new piece...never give up with a broken piece ;-)
ReplyDeleteTo your question about latex: its unusual to work with , it needs some training and lessons because you have only one try . After its glued together you cant rework with it!
I ofently re-used brocken clother to do bags or jewellery !
ReplyDeleteEven, I also sometime transform them into very colored teddy bear for my litle sister !
Great post !
Awe, you're so talented! I can't believe you knitted that much in just a night! Love the color combination ;).
ReplyDeletegreat idea and you seem to be very talented!
ReplyDeleteI want to craft too, but I always feel I don't have time, even if it isn't entirely true.
ReplyDeleteI try to recycle my broken clothes into something else!
