Slash My Back

Just a quick post, with tutorials and tips.

One of my friends 'is it just me or does everyone dress the same at college'
This is so true! It made me think of ways to avoid 'dressing the same' It's nice to be able to set yourself apart.

Thrifting
buying second hand and from charity shops saves alot of money and most of the time the item is no longer sold anywhere else or vintage!

Buy Abroad
when you're on holiday, the markets are quite good place to start, but I'd double check the quality

Buy Online
If you buy from an Indie brand, handmade or from a foreign country it's unlikely to bump into someone wearing the same clothes.

Raid relative's wardrobes
saves money and who's likely to be having the same things from 20 years ago?

Sew
easier said than done, but I love being able to make unique clothes that no one else has

Revamp and DIY
add a couple of beads, fabric paint, tie dye, stud, the possibilities are endless.
Go to shop you wouldn't normally go to sch as goth shops and

I thought I would post an old tutorial I did years ago

Get jumper or Tshirt
Tailor chalk the back where you want to cut (like so)
Carefully cut along the lines, making sure you don't cut the front

Simples!

I've had this jumper for 4 years, it's been to Germany, Hong Kong and HIM concert.
I love it to pieces :)

2008 when I first posted this tutorial.

I hope you like this tutorial, I'll be posting some more.
Happy Leap Year day too!

Do you feel everyone dresses too similar in your workplace?

Especially when buying stuff from H&M, a big chance you'll see someone else wearing the same thing.
Or "see that girl wearing that, it's from shop x" for example =w=

Thanks for the tip c:

Haha, I remember when I was 18... Me and my friend were sitting in the cafeteria and noticed that an awful lot of girls wore white converse sneakers. So we started counting them. I think we got up to 30 in like 10 minutes. >.<

At school there were lots of people who dressed similarly, but at college and uni it's not too bad at all, there's lots of diversity, but there are some people who wear the exact same thing. I think it's good to be different. Love this tutorial too, and yay for long days! xxx

My friend and I like to put holes and cuts into our stuff to emulate some of the Balmain clothing we've wanted. ^^

Ooh I am loving those slits!!

It *is* really easy to look the same since everything is mass marketed and everyone seems to shop at the same stores. :\

Such good ideas. I only shop at thrift stores now it seems like. I also can't wait for my trip to Japan to pick up some new clothes!! Your tutorial was so simple, but really transformed the shirt :]

ooh nice DIY! Was slashing the tshirt a great stress reliever too? AND YES zomg especially how Melbournians love to dress in black.. it's so hard to find colourful coats and blazers :(

haha it is pretty easy to do DIY slashes on the back of a tee, isn't it? :P I like the other tips too. Buying online is a terribly addictive habit though >_<

Hmmm I do somewhat feel people dress similarly in my workplace. Although you will always have the one or two people who insist on dressing to stand out. Which is fine as long as its appropriate.

i buy online and it's definitely a great way to ensure that you're not dressing like everyone else, especially in college. but your DIYs must keep your clothes looking very creative and different!

DIYing is pretty much my favorite thing since I lack all sewing skills and could not for the life of me make something on my own...so that's definitely my go to

I think it's natural to start dressing a like...I mean I sure dressed in a similar way to my friends...or at least more similar to one group than the others.

Anwyay, DIY anything is awesome, definitely a great way to make something different and stand out from the crowd!

i'm surprised but i rarely dress like my mom friends. most people i know stick to jeans and tops but i like to mis it up. even if others have similar pieces you can also experiment and put it together differently than other people.

These are great tips! I found that when I was at college everyone dressed the same and most of it was from Primark! Though at work people might have the same items of clothing but as everyone has their own sense of style that it doesn't really look like they are wearing the same thing.

Well everyone in my workplace is from a different culture and they are different ages. So I think we all dress differently.

Absolutely but I seem to have quite a different sence of taste so my corporate clothing combinations seem to result in outfits that people comment on for it's uniqueness. This can be fun or make you feel uncomfortably like you stand out, depending on what kind of day you're having I guess

I agree it's great to dress individually and never feel you need to conform, otherwise it's no fun !! Great suggestions

hope your having fun at college !!

Great tips, I really like the slashed affect. I feel a lot of people are dictated to buy fashion. It is way more fun to be unique.

Cool tips, Grace! I felt the same way when I was in college, only I wasn't brave enough back then to take the risk to try to stand out from the crowd.

How have you been? Hope you're having a great week! ;D

Hugs!

I remember this tutorial!
Here in Italy every girl seem to dress quite the same, I feel like all the stuff that it's a place famous for fashion is quite unmerited. Only in summer there's more variation. But I don't mind and I wear what I like, it's quite good to feel human among the clones XD
